Rose Ceremony

August 28, 2019 by Great Oak School

In common with fellow Waldorf schools across the globe, Great Oak School honors the first grade students on their first day of entering the grade school with the Rose Ceremony. Leaving kindergarten and entering first grade is an enormous shift for children.

The first grade child’s family walks to the kindergarten teacher who hands a rose to the child. The eighth grader hands a rose to one of the parents and holds first grader’s hand and leads the whole family under the rainbow arch made out of a rainbow silk held by sixth and seventh graders. The first grader gives the rose to the first grade teacher.

Thank you!
