We love our volunteers, and there are always ways to get involved at Great Oak School!
Our Parent Council is a vibrant, dedicated, and talented community of parent volunteers that help our teachers and administrators support our children as well as find an increased sense of community through their involvement with this wonderful school.
We envision our Parent Council as a great Oak tree that protects and nourishes our children. Each committee is a branch and each volunteer a leaf on that branch.
Our Vision summarizes all that we believe in and are working to achieve
By growing at a healthy and sustainable pace, by 2026, we will be rooted in our identity as Houston’s first Waldorf School. We will be financially solvent and go on to provide an education through the twelfth grade. Our teachers will support each other and guide our children’s education according to the principles of Rudolph Steiner. Our Parent Council will be an active community, supporting and carrying out the needs of our teachers and Board of Trustees, and will be involved in the education of both our parents and the community in the principles of Waldorf Education. Great Oak School will strive to make a Waldorf education available to anyone desiring it. Our children will thrive on all levels: physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual. They will graduate knowing they can do anything and, rooted in knowledge of Self, will go on to their next level of education or job with enthusiasm and reverence, confident in their ability to succeed.
All parents are required to donate volunteer time, and our Parent Council wishes for each parent to find a way to give that nourishes their spirit. Our Committees carry out our vision and are structured as follows:
