The first light of advent is the light of stones, The first light of advent is the light of stones,
the light that shines in crystals, shells, and bones.

Happy advent season, y’all! We hope you find moments throughout the coming weeks to find stillness, focus on the light in the darkness, and not be swept away by all the noise this month can bring 🕯️
Our first festival of the year, Michaelmas, takes Our first festival of the year, Michaelmas, takes place near the autumnal equinox when daylight grows shorter. The festival is named for the archangel Michael, known as a protector of humanity, who inspires qualities of courage, initiative and steadfastness. As the seasons transition from the outer warmth of summer to the coolness of fall, we turn inwards, towards ourselves and towards our community for inner warmth. We celebrate with a play about St. George, the human counterpart of Michael, taming the dragon. After the play, our community enjoyed a spread of dragon bread, apples, and other snacks while the students enjoyed games hosted by our middle schoolers.
On the first day of school each year, we hold the On the first day of school each year, we hold the Rose Ceremony. The whole school joins together in welcoming the 1st graders, as their Kindergarten teachers lead them across the Golden Bridge to greet their new 1st Grade teacher with a handshake, and receive a rose from a student in 8th grade. This year, first graders were welcomed in August by co-teachers Mrs. Bernal and Mrs. Womac. We look forward to sharing more sweet memories of this class!
Every year, 5th grade completes a Pentathlon. The Every year, 5th grade completes a Pentathlon. The students practice the five events - relays, javelin, wrestling, discus, and long jump - most of the year in their movement classes, paralleling their studies of the Greeks and other ancient civilizations. This year, we had the joy of welcoming 5th grade from @bayouvillageschool to complete the Pentathlon with us. Each class also gave an artistic offering, and each student wrote an ode to a god of their choice and then read it for the families gathered to watch.
We enjoyed a beautiful afternoon of maypole dances We enjoyed a beautiful afternoon of maypole dances, flower crown making, pies, and community at our Spring Festival just ahead of our spring break earlier this month. This festival is so looked forward to after the winter months, and could not have been pulled off without our outstanding committee of parent volunteers.
